Employment Fosters Independence and Inclusion
Everyone has the ability and right to be included as a productive part of our employment community. Our community members with Disabilities feel the same sense of independence and self reliance that we all feel when we pay our own way from the wages earned through our own labor.
As costs continue to rise and funding continues to become tighter our ability to continue providing new and innovative supports for people with disabilities to become productive members of the working community is under siege. Government funding has failed to keep pace with inflation and now covers less than 50% of the costs to deliver on our mission. Your donations will help us provide the employment services and supports to our disabled community members with skills training, employment placement, and job retention supports.
Employment instead of Institutionalization
In 1967, SKCAC was formed from the belief and vision of families of children with developmental disabilities that conventional wisdom of the day was wrong; that their children deserved more and could do more than be institutionalized. That their children could learn the life and job skills needed to live their lives with independence.
21st Century Jobs and Skills
The needs of people with disabilities in our community continue to grow even as government funding shrinks. It is estimated that approximately 2.5-3% of our community are people with developmental disabilities and many of these citizens are waiting to get employment services. With your [donations] the SKCAC team will continue with our 43 year history of developing innovative tools and approaches to assist people with developmental disabilities along their pathway to employment and independence.
